Anyone who knows me, knows I am a huge fan of routine – if I can create a system or a process, I am in! Why? I find it just makes life easier – it’s one less thing on my mind, one less thing to worry about, one less thing to decide. One of the most important places I’ve used the power of routine is in my workout schedule. In my former life, I worked 11 hour days and sometimes found it difficult to get my workouts in, but knowing they were important to me I knew I had to find a routine that I could stick to. They say you can’t fill from an empty cup, that you need to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else. Sometimes that is much easier said than done. This past week, I had the pleasure of speaking to a new mother’s group about self- care and how difficult it can be to make time for yourself when there’s a new baby, but the truth is that making the time will always be hard no matter what we have going on when we think of it as an extravagance or an indulgence.
